World Thinking Day

About SU72's Annual Event

World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship and has been celebrated annually on February 22nd, since 1926. It is a day when Girl Scouts around the world think about their sister Girl Scouts, the meaning of Girl Scouts/Guiding, and our Global impact. It is observed by 10 million Girl Scouts and Girl Guides worldwide.

A theme that focuses on an important international issue is selected each year by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The WAGGGS creates badge activities relating to an annual theme that girls can do to earn the official annual World Thinking Day patch.

In Hillsborough, our Service Unit celebrates World Thinking Day with an annual event where Troops research country facts and culture, create a presentation about their country, learn about other countries, and participate in achieving the annual WTD patch.

Many Girl Scout sisters volunteer to assist in running the annual event. Girl volunteer roles include running badge activity sessions, being the master of ceremonies to facilitating the event, and assisting with younger girls.

On February 19, 2022 over 100 girls celebrated World Thinking Day in person and participated in activities related to this year's theme Our World: Our Equal Future: The Environment and Gender Equality. The Dewitt Activity building was echoing excitement as girls completed activities with their Troop and traveled around to different countries while celebrating international friendships, country facts and how girls participate in Girl Scouting in Europe and Oceania continents.

The Girl Scout Motto is "Be Prepared." We were prepared to have an in person celebration this year as well as a virtual event. Check out some of the digital country presentations.
