2020 Graduating Ambassadors

In 2020, we are proud to have 24 graduating Girl Scouts. We normally recognize them at our annual Awards Ceremony. Since we can't do that, we've come up with another way to celebrate our graduating Ambassadors. Each day, we will spotlight one Girl Scout, give you a glimpse into their Girl Scout history and their future plans. Please join us in our daily celebration.

What's your favorite Girl Scout memory? One of my favorite girl scout events was cooking food with my troop for shelters. I felt really united with all the girls in my troop and I got to help make a difference in the life of someone who really needed help! What's your favorite Girl Scout memory? In intermediate school, we had a trip to Frost Valley YMCA for a winter sports event and overnight, and I had a lot of fun. From braving the cold weather together, to goofing off in the cabin and using puddles as slip-n-slides, to convincing each other to be brave enough to go into the snow tubes to slide down the snow, it was full of fun.

What are your plans after High School? I will be attending The University of Pittsburgh to study Biology and Art.

What's your favorite Girl Scout memory? One of my favorite memories from Girl Scouts was running my Paw Pals event for my Silver Award with Rebecca U. and Catherine F. I was able to speak to young Girl Scouts and educate them on animals in shelters. For this award we also were able to bring in a guest speaker and teach the girls to make toys and blankets for the animals at the shelter we worked with. I gained experience in event planning, budgeting, scheduling, teaching, leadership, and communication, which will all be very useful to me in the future.

What would you like to share with your fellow graduating Girl Scouts and leaders? Thank you Girl Scouts for giving me an opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference in my community.

What's your favorite Girl Scout memory? I remember when my troop went on a whale watching trip and it was such a blast being out in the water and hanging out with my troop. I also remember one year my troop went to a camp that was hunger games themed (when that was all the rage) and it was so fun having some friendly competition but still learning skills like geocaching and first aid. Of course I remember Camporee where we made s’mores around a camp fire, did a very cringy skit, and traded swaps.

What are your plans after High School? I am attending The College of New Jersey to study Secondary Education.

What would you like to share with your fellow graduating Girl Scouts and leaders? When I entered Girl Scouts as a Brownie, I had no idea that it would have such a big impact on my life. Throughout the years I have had so many experiences through Girl Scouts that have taught me how to be a leader and a better person. Helping others showed me empathy and the importance of volunteer work. Even though my years of being a Girl Scout are over, I will carry these values forever.

What's your favorite Girl Scout memory? My favorite Girl Scout memory was going to all of the Camporees. They each had their own special activities and parts that stuck out to me, but doing all of the activities with my friends and doing swaps with everyone was always super fun and made Girl Scouts something special to remember.

What are your plans after High School? I will be attending Drexel University to study Business.

What's your favorite Girl Scout memory? My favorite Girl Scout memory was spending my summer at Camp DeWitt and Camp Hoover. I remember attending DeWitt with my friends during elementary, intermediate, and middle school and spending our week in the programs we picked. Summer camp at both DeWitt and Hoover could be tiring but I really only remember the fun songs I sang, the food I cooked, the laughter, and the connections I made. I loved being a camper at Girl Scout camp completing badges while learning skills I wouldn't have otherwise learned. Some of my favorite summer memories were from camp, whether it's learning how to build a fire, paddleboard, or stargaze, camp was and always will be where I had my favorite memories as a Girl Scout.

What are your plans after High School? I will be attending University of Massachusetts Amherst studying Biochemistry and Molecular biology with a minor in Italian studies.

What would you like to share with your fellow graduating Girl Scouts and leaders? Going back to my favorite memories as a Girl Scout, what I learned and experienced as a camper inspired me to become a camp counselor at Camp DeWitt so I can help other Girl Scouts and girls experience camp to its fullest and make their own memories. The skills I have learned both directly and indirectly through Girl Scouts have shaped some of my best characteristics and traits. I cannot thank Girl Scouts and all my mentors and leaders enough for the paths its/they've cleared for me.
